The pleasure of the Hamam

Do you remember that old story of joy? Fragrant soaps, woven peshtemals (bath wraps), fluffy towels, wooden bath clogs, bath mitts.

Although the pleasure of the hamam experience does not take place as often as it did in the past, these bath products, that our shop in the Grand Bazaar is devoted to,  have an important place in our bathrooms at home.

Abdulla at the Grand Bazaar has been created from 2 separate shops on the Halicalar (Carpet Sellers) street. Both are not particularly large, however on entering, you will find the space quite surprising. Influenced by the Grand Bazaar, the decoration is very mystical. The woven fabrics, natural soaps, hamam bowls (tas), and peshtemals are very authentic. It’s hard to say which, however, either the smell of the soaps, the pure white towels, or the vision of the woven fabrics make you feel very clean and purified.

It is undisputed that Abdulla is not only a shop for hand and body cleanliness, but also a tantalising place for women who buy decorative soaps to hang in their homes and bathrooms with the desire that “my house smells nice”.

The ambience of the Grand Bazaar changes to keep pace with the times and newly opened shops give it a new breath of life. ABDULLA, providing bath and home textile products is located on Halicilar Street and is a witness to this.

Monocle – (2009)
In 1999 he opened Abdulla, selling natural soaps and hand-made linens next door. Consistent with Fes’s philosophy of mixing old-world techniques with new-school flourishes, Tosun seeks out village produce from the North Aegean and Eastern Anatolian spices. The same can be said for Abdulla, where traditional craftmanship updates versions of household goods.

The Grand Bazaar’s Fez – Monocle’s new favourite – Milliyet 20 June
Monocle magazine has added Fes Cafe in the Grand Bazaar to its list of best cafes. Tyler Brule, the magazine’s editor said to Milliyet Newspaper, “Turkey should continue it’s history”.

Regional textiles, towels, peshtemals, bedspreads, natural olive oil soaps……all of these can be found in the strikingly modern Abdulla store, located between the little old shops based in the Grand Bazaar. Everything sold here is one hundred percent Turkish. Abdulla opened in 1997 and reflects the synthesis between East and West.

Homespun yarns and other classy cloths. Relief is on hand from the incumbent sensual overload of the Grand Bazaar in the simple form of Abdulla,  purveyor of natural handmade materials crafted in home workshops throughout the country.
